Topkapi Palace, our second monument sits on the highest hill on Sultanahmet. Whoever controlled this strategic promontory it is said, controlled the Bosphorus. Sultan Mehmet 2sd therefore chose this site for his gov't and residence. The palace is on sprawling grounds with low-lying buildings spread out like tents in the Asian and Arabic tradition. We spent most of the afternoon in the Harem section. The walls of the Harem are "wallpapered" with tiles interspersed with stained glass windows. Check out this glorious kaleidoscope.
